David Conyers is an Australian science fiction author residing in Sydney. His fiction has appeared in Jupiter, Book of Dark Wisdom, Midnight Echo, Innsmouth Free Press, Antipodean SF, and Andromeda Spaceways as well as a dozen anthologies published world wide including ‘best of’ collections. He is the co-author of the novel The Spiraling Worm with John Sunseri and editor of the horror anthology Cthulhu’s Dark Cults, both published in the United States. David has been a multiple nominee for the Aurealis, Australian Shadows and Ditmar Awards. He won the Australian Horror Writers Association’s Flash Fiction Award in 2007 and was shortlisted for the Aeon Award in the same year. He recently joined Albedo One, Ireland’s magazine of speculative fiction, as a regular reviewer and is currently editing Cthulhu Unbound 3 with Brian M. Sammons for Permuted Press.

News

August 14, 2010: One of David's most successful short stories, "Black Water" is published online at Abledo One as the first in Albodo One's new Fiction Highlight's series, The story was shortlisted for the Aeon Award 2006-2007 and narrowly missed out on a place in the top six of the contest. "Black Water" was originally published in Jupiter '#24, edited by Ian Redman and has been shortlisted for a Ditmar Award in 2010.

August 3, 2010: "Black Water", David's distopia science fiction novella of Africa receives its second award nomination in the 2010 Ditmar Awards for Best Novella, making this David's fifth nomination for this award.

July 29, 2010: Two of David's stories will appear in anthologies released at AussieCon 4, the World Science Fiction Convention in Melbourne this September 4-6. The first is "Sweet as Decay" co-authored with David Witteveen appearing in Macabre, A Journey Through Australia's Darkest Fears edited by Angela Challis and Marty Young. The second is "Dream Machine" appearing in Scenes from the Second Storey edited by Amanda Pillar and Pete Kempshall.

June 20, 2010: The interview David conducted with Greg Egan in 2009 for Albedo One Issue 37 appears online on Greg's website. Read the full interview here. 

June 13, 2010: Cthulhu Afrikus, David's third chapbook with Rainfall Books, will be released in October 2010. It features three reprints, "The Faceless Watchers", "As Above, So Below" and "Screaming Crawler".

June 4, 2010: David sells his third novella to Jupiter Magazine, "The Uncertainty Bridge" which will appear in Issue 30 out in November this year.

May 6, 2010: The release of Albedo One 38 sees new reviews from David, including for Zima Blue by Alastair Reynolds, Saturn's Children by Charles Stross, The Opposite of Life by Narrelle Harris and Horn by Peter M. Ball. 

May 6, 2010: Jeff W Edwards interviews David in Shroud Magazine, Issue 8. In the interview David talks about how he got started as a writer, the experience of writing Secrets of Kenya and The Spiraling Worm and some background information on Cthulhu's Dark Cults.

April 27, 2010: Cthulhu's Dark Cults, David's first edited fiction anthology, goes to print in the United States for a May 27, 2010 release. Over the next month, David will be presenting extracts of several of the included stories and how each story came to me on his online journal.

March 23, 2010: The latest isssue of Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine, issue 43 features David's short science fiction story "Emergency Rebuild". The issue is edited by David Kernot, with whom David Conyers will be editing a future issue of Midnight Echo.

February 28, 2010: David Conyers, along with Jason Fischer and David Kernot will edited Issue 6 of the Australian Horror Writers Association's magazine, Midnight Echo due for release in 2011. This issue will be a science fiction horror theme and details of what the editors are looking for can be found here. Submissions will be accepted later in the year.

February 16, 2010:  Scenes from the Second Storey from Morrigan Books features David’s horror short story “Dream Machine”. The collection is edited by Amanda Pillar and Pete Kempshall, and is inspired by the God Machine album of the same name.

February 5, 2010: David is micro-interviewed mirco-interviewed by Innsmouth Free Press where he talks about his inspiration for his short story “The Swelling” appearing on their website, and talks about his favorite Lovecraftian movie and an upcoming anthology he is currently editing with Brian M. Sammons.

February 1, 2010: David appears in the magazine of Innsmouth Free Press issue 3, with a reprint of his King in Yellow tale “The Swelling”. The magazine is produced by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (Publisher) and Paula R. Stiles (Editor-in-Chief). Download the Issue here as a PDF or read the story online here.

January 15, 2010: Two of David’s Call of Cthulhu role-playing game supplements, Secrets of Kenya and Terrors from Beyond, are published by French gaming company, Sans Detour as Les Secrets du Kenya and Terreurs de l'au Dela respectively. He will soon be appearing in the French translation of Secrets of San Francisco, entitled Les Secrets de San-Francisco. These books mark David’s first books to be translated into the French.
